AGLC Rule Forces Change of Executive

Aug. 11, 2017

Hello Edson Minor Hockey Members.

We were recently notified by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) that the Executive Committee of any organization, according to AGLC rules, could not hold two members with the same last name.  This is not an Edson Minor Hockey Association rule or Bylaw, it is strictly a rule enforced by the AGLC.  If we were not willing to change they would not issue us a permit for any sanctioned fund-raising events.  This includes but is not limited to the Car raffle, 50/50 and future Casino nights. Without these major fundraising events, it would have an extremely negative impact on our association.

Our goal as a new executive is to help support and continue to grow the program going forward.  After exhausting all avenues and reviewing all of our options Joff Kehler decided to resign in order to maintain our AGLC fund raising license.  On August 4th, 2017, the executive committee accepted Joff Kehler’s written resignation from the Treasurer position.  Also on August 4th, 2017 a motion was created under Article 6 of our Bylaws to fill the vacancy and nominate Kerri Quinlan as Treasurer.  This motion passed via majority vote. With the appointment of Kerri to the Treasurer position it created a vacancy in the Registrar position.  A motion was created and passed to have Joff Kehler fill this vacancy and remain an important part of the organization.

Should you have any questions or concerns in regard to the situation we were presented with, please feel free to contact me at any time either by email (jdkehler@hotmail.com) or by phone (780-712-3591).

Regards,

JD Kehler
